Thattathin Marayathu is a thriller Malayalam film directed by Lal Jose. The film was released on January 29th, 2012 to critical acclaim. It narrates the story of three children who are about to turn 18 years old and in search for their biological parents in Kozhikode city in Kerala in India. They come to know that one of their biological fathers is a mafia don in the city. The film features an ensemble cast including Siddique, Janardhanan, Sheerin Rajan, Asif Ali, Vayalar Ravi, Salim Kumar and Ansun Oraon.
The film had a slow start as it needed to build up its story and characters. In the initial days of release there were mixed reviews from critics as many questioned on how a film about orphans could make an impact or satisfy the audience. But later it gained more positive appreciation from the audiences as they started liking the performances of Lijo Jose Pellissery and Manoj K Jayan as well as Lal Jose’s direction. The climax of the film was considered a high point of the film. It was quite a surprise for the audience to see a climax that touched their hearts and left quite an impact on them. The film ran over 100 days in major cities in India and got a blockbuster status.
Three young orphans who are going to turn 18 years old, has no idea about their biological parents except few memories from their past. They have been brought up by Father John, a priest at a church in Kozhikode city in Kerala in India. After the death of Father John they have been living with Father Vincent played by Janardhanan. They have to complete their 18th birthday before they can get any information about their biological parents from an orphanage. They will be given a letter from the orphanage which contains the details of their biological parents, if at all they are alive.
They have spent a happy life with Father John and Father Vincent. They used to go for fishing in a nearby pond every afternoon after the school hours and return back to have their evening meal together. After Father John’s death, they have been going for fishing in the pond every afternoon with Father Vincent who is not much interested in it but has been doing it for them as his routine.
When they turn 18, they will be given the letter. Then they will travel to their biological parents' home and hopefully get some information. They are ready to do anything for it. Just before their 18th birthday, they are informed that someone had hidden the letter in the pond after knowing that one of them is dead.
They decide to dump all their belongings in the pond and empty out the house like Father John made it before his death. They flood themselves in water and search for it with help of some fishermen next morning. But after a long time they start seeing something floating on top of water and can’t see clearly what it is as there is no lighting at night.
